World SeriesWorld Series that has some serious promise when the teams won their way into it. Is turning into something of a Blow out.    Is it just that Boston is that good or is there more going on here.   Both teams are really good.  If they were not they would not have made it this far.  But that does not mean that one of them is not significantly better than the other team.  Even if the players are not the person making the decisions could be.

21 World Series Sweeps

The numbers tend to point to this will not be a sweep.  In all of the World Series that have been played there has only been 21 sweeps.  The first World Series was held in 1903.  There was no Series in 1904 and then another one was missed in 1994 due to a players strike.  That means that there has been 113 World Series that have been played.  So less than 21 percent of the time the series ends in a sweep.

The Red Sox started two left handed pitchers in the first two games.   According to Analytics right handed hitters have an advantage against left handed pitchers.    This is the first time in World Series history that something like this was done.   With the results it looks like there is probably a reason it has never happened before.

Be Smart with Analytics

I get the analytics.  Numbers can help you to decide certain things.   But numbers can only do so much.  At some point you have to step back and take a good look.  Hmmmmm the numbers say that I should sit my best players for someone else.  You then have to ask yourself “Does this make sense”.     The numbers can only do so much.

This is where a Manager in Baseball can make all the difference.  Gather a much information as you can.   Then take all that information into consideration.  No matter how good the information is.  If it tells you to do something that does not make sense.  Then you probably should not do it.  The Analytics are just one of the tools that teams can use.  It seems that some have gotten stuck or fooled by them.

We will see what happens when the Series resumes on the West Coast in Los Angeles.  Being down 2 – 0 is not a dagger in your chances.  It does make things significantly more difficult.     Los Angeles Manager Dave Roberts has some huge decisions to make.  Of course even if he makes the correct choices the players still have to perform.   With the way that they have started it may be too late.
