College Football PlayoffCollege Football Playoff is Set and other than two fan bases who really cares. At least that is my thinking.  It is also the thinking of most of the people that I have talked to.  How ever if the ratings from the semi finals are any indication the championship game will have some huge numbers.  Even though the numbers area down from last year.  It is more likely that they are down due to the day that they were played on.  I had to be reminded that the semi final games were going to be played on the Saturday before New Years day.

It had not crossed my mind that the games would not be played on New Years Day.  The other year that there was some problems with ratings was the year the semi final games were played on New Year Eve rather than New Year Day.

College Football Playoff – a lot wrong

The College Football playoff has gotten a lot wrong.    Only letting in Four Teams.  Trying to move the game to New Years Eve.  Putting the Semi Finals on a Saturday before New Years Day rather than on New Years Day.  People want their college football so much that it really does not seem to matter. So even on the years that the ratings are down a bit.  They are still really good.   The thing is if they were smarter they could be even better.  Maybe they will learn.  LOL

Horrible Games

The semi final games were horrible.  Saying that they were horrible is being kind.   The committee had been holding to to how well they have matched up teams so far in the playoff.   I have to say that they actually had done a pretty good job.  The problem is that the playoff has created two monsters.

Clemson Vs. Notre Dame

The first game between Clemson and Notre Dame was a joke.  Notre Dame despite their 12 – 0 record had no business being one of the four teams in the playoff.  If they are not going to join a conference then they should be cut out of the playoff.   If Notre Dame was in the ACC this game would have been played a few weeks ago.  Notre Dame would have been exposed then and another team would have been in the playoff.

Instead we got a 30 – 3 thumping of Notre Dame by Clemson.   This game was so one sided that the score does not even show the domination by Clemson.  After the game Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said that there was no over whelming difference between the two teams.  Clearly he was not watching the same game.  That is probably part of the reason why Notre Dame was so handily beaten.

Alabama Vs. Oklahoma

The second game between Alabama and Oklahoma was not much different.  Before anyone was able to settle in for the game Alabama was already up 28 – 0.  By the time Oklahoma started to put some points up the game was over.   After that all Alabama had to do was match each Oklahoma score.  Which they were able to do with out much trouble.   The game actually was much better than the Clemson Notre Dame game.  Oklahoma was actually able to do a little bit against Alabama.   While I think that Clemson would beat Notre Dame easily 9 out of 10 times.   Alabama would probably beat Oklahoma only 8 out of 10 times.

The games when pretty much as we predicted they would when the match ups were announced.  I thought that they would be a little bit closer.  Or that they would at least be interesting games.  So I had the out come correct but not how the game would go.  I think that over all other than Notre Dame and Oklahoma fans.  No  one really thought that those two teams had a chance.

What Now

The College Football Playoff really needs to change.  We already knew this.  It needs to change as quickly as it can be changed.   They cannot go this route cutting out at least two of the power five conferences.   At some point no matter how much people love their college sports.  The ratings will be impacted.   It has already created a very odd setting.  So we will see what happens.

I don’t really care which team wins this game.  Either way I see it as a loss for college football as a whole.  More than likely I will not be watching the whole game.  Just catching up on it to see what is going on.

So prediction   Alabama 28 – Clemson 27
