Myles GarrettMyles Garrett suspended indefinitely.  What he did is inexcusable.  I had stopped watching the game before this happened.  It was quite the surprise when I got up in the morning and saw the news about what happened with eight seconds to go in the game.  If you you have seen the video of what happened you can see it here.  It is something that should never happen in a sporting even.  Ever.  It does not matter who started it.

I have seen several people saying that Mason Rudolph needs to take responsibility for starting this.  I will agree that he could have done things better.  He should not have tried to kick Myles Garrett.  Rudolph also should not have tried to take off Garrett’s helmet.  For doing those he should be given what ever the stiffest penalty that the CBA allows for.  That is the only responsibility that Rudolph needs to take responsibility for.  What happened after that is beyond a poor choice.  It is beyond any norm that we accept in society.

At first when this happened it looked like Garrett and the Browns were chalking this up to hot tempers in a violent game.  After all the Browns got the win.  There were even a few tweets from Browns players saying that it was a good day for the Browns.  They beat the Steelers and salvaged at least a shot at making the playoffs. All things are good for the Browns.  I am pretty sure that those players and the Browns organization realize they made a mistake making those posts now.

To all the people that are saying that it is Rudolph’s own fault that Garrett bashed him in the head with his own helmet.  You are absolutely wrong.  Garrett had every reason to be upset for what happened.  Rudolph should have walked away.  That does not in any way make it acceptable to to what Myles Garrett did.   Saying that Garrett was provoked is just as wrong.  With that logic if you cut someone off in traffic and they then crash into you on purpose and shoot you.  It was your fault for cutting them off.   No matter what the cause was the result being physical violence that could kill someone is not the answer.

Since the event has happened and the Brown and Garrett first mentioned it their tune has changed.  Garrett has issued an apology that included a part directed at Rudolph.  The Browns have issued an apology as well.  That is a great step to take.  The NFL need to get this right.  Suspending Garrett for the rest of the season including any possible playoff games the Browns make is the right thing.  They are leaving the Myles Garrett suspension open ended at this point.  I am not sure what the criteria is going to be for him to come back.  Probably part of it should include some kind of anger management class.

Myles Garrett is a really good football player.  I do believe in second chances.  He should be allowed to come back as long as he understands what he did was not acceptable.  if the helmet had been turned just a little more when it hit Rudolph in the head it could have killed him.  If that would have happened we would have been talking about a whole different set of punishment for this.

The other people involved in this incident have also accepted responsibility and the punishment that they are going to get.  This was a sad day for the NFL and sports in general.  Anyone defending Myles Garrett and the actions he took on the field in that game are just wrong.
