After the Weekend Vol 1 Issue 3

After the WeekendIt is funny to think about but how many fans out there think that watching or not watching a game affects the outcome?  I know I have done it.  I jinxed my team by watching.   It is really an absurd notion but one that really does evoke some strong feeling.  If I watch this game it will affect the outcome and they will win or lose.  If I don’t watch they will win because the know I am not watching and decided to make me see what I missed by not watching.  Or if I watch the players know I am watching and they have me so they don’t really need to try since they already have me as a viewer.  LOL  I know funny right.  But really how many of you have though that?

This week was not as interesting as the last two weeks in sports.  Next week will be really interesting though with the NFL Draft and the NHL and NBA playoffs getting to the second round.

The NBA playoffs are in full swing.  The biggest question is how does the Steph Curry injury affect the Warriors.  The initial ankle sprain did not look like it was going to be too bad.  Now with the knee injury that happened when he slipped on a wet spot at the end of the first half.  Even if this turns out to not be that serious of an injury.  How will he play with that knee on his mind.   This is when we will find out just how good the rest of the team is.  I still think that they will not have a problem getting past the Rockets.  What happens after that.  Then what happens when they get to the Spurs if Curry can not play or cannot play at full strength.  It seems that a lot of people are looking past the Spurs and have not paid attention to just how good they are.  They have the second best record ever in the West.  They are a really good team and even with the Warriors at full strength could beat them.

NASCAR had its second short track race in a row.  It was nice that the Richmond race was moved back to the day.  I am probably the only one but with a few exceptions I am not a fan of the night racing.  I would really rather watch a race on Sunday Afternoon rather than on a Saturday night.  It just seems out of character.   I am alright with the Memorial day race and the second Daytona race being at night.  For the most part I want them to be on Sunday Afternoon.  So thank you NASCAR for putting this race back where it belongs.  With the second short track race in a row we had Carl Edwards win his second straight race.   I was unable to watch the end of the race and when I left Dale Jr. was in 5th place.  I figured at the worst a top 10 finish for him.  This is where the opening statement of this weeks post came from.  If I had only been able to stay and watch Dale would not been pushed back several places and would have ended up winning…  Oh what might have been.

Trades all around in the NFL.  Well not really all around but huge trades for the top two pics in the 2016 draft.  Huge trades like this almost never work out.  Quick tell me who was the last player that was involved in a huge trade that worked out?  I can’t remember either.  It does work out well for the team that either gets all the picks or a bunch of players.

The NCAA showed again just how out of touch they are with reality.  They instituted a ban on all satellite camps.  Other than the SEC cry babies who does this really help?  No one.  Who does it hurt?  More than anything it hurts the athletes and the smaller schools.  It hurts the athletes because now they will only be able be exposed to the schools that are close to where ever they live.  Most of the families do not have the money to travel around the country to all of the different camps.  The solution to this was to have the camps come to them.  But in another NCAA we don’t care about the athletes move they have banned the camps.  This is a very sad rule that destroys the whole idea that college sports is supposed to be about.  The smaller schools are in the same boat.  Not all of them can afford to put on camps.  So they would get invited to the camps being put on by the larger schools.  This gave exposure to the athletes that were not going to get an offer from one of the power conference teams.

So in its over bearing and unimaginative over seeing power the NCAA bowed to the pressure of the SEC and banned the camps.  With this move I would call for the B1G and the PAC-12 to pull out of the NCAA and start their own.  Any other major conference that wants to come along and stop the madness would be invited too.  It is time to end the confusing and mixed messages that the NCAA sends.

The St. Louis Blues had the Chicago Blackhawks on the ropes and then decided that with a 3 – 1 lead they could sit back and watch and still advance to the second round.  But the Blackhawks had other ideas and now the series is tied 3 – 3.  Of course the Blues could still pull this out in game 7 but really I think that they punted this one away.  The Red Wings, Rangers, Flyers, Wild and Panthers were all eliminated in the first round.  There really were no surprises in the first round of the NHL playoffs this year.  Unless of course the Blues can pull off the game 7 win.

On the entertainment front.  Jungle Book Repeated as the number one movie.  There was no big release to challenge it.  That will change next week.  Fear the Walking Dead finally had a pretty decent episode.  The characters are finally starting to realize that the world as they knew it is over. ( insert REM song here)  Now it will be interesting to see what they do with the next episode.    Well with that this week is done.  On to the next week for something more interesting happening…
