The Sports ReportersThe Sports Reporters was one of the few shows left on ESPN that I watched anymore.  By few I mean two.  There was two shows that I watched on ESPN that were not live sporting events.  For 28 years my Sunday morning has included two shows.  Out Side the Lines (OTL) and the Sports Reporters.

I have been watching The Sports Reporters for almost all of my adult life.  I can remember watching when they first came on the air in 1988.  1988 think about that.  What was going on in the world then for you?  Through all of the changes of the last 29 years The Sports Reporters have been on the air.

Ever Sunday morning right after OTL.  Bob Ley would finish up his story of the day and then he would toss it to The Sports Reporters.  This was part of my Sunday morning for all that time.  Was it the best show?  no.  Did I agree with them all the time? No.  But that is what made it fun for me.  For every crazy conclusion they came to.  I was able to argue with them in my head.  Well okay sometimes it was not in my head and I would be arguing with the tv.  With people that could not hear me.

When the Sports Reporters Began

When the show first started.  It looked like they were getting together in the basement of one of the reporters.  Threw up a camera and were just taking about sports.  As it evolved they got better sets and moved around a bit to different location.  It always had the same feel though.  A few people getting together to talk about the sporting event of the week.

One thing that the sport reporters always seemed to do well was have a group of 4 people that played off each other well and were all able to bring different opinions.  They had their ups and downs.  Over the years it still remained an interesting half hour of television on a Sunday morning.

With the end of The Sports Reporters ESPN and put an end to something fun.   It really could not have cost that much to produce.  At least not compared to many of the other shows that they have.  So it seems a bit odd to me that this show would be cancelled.  Of course there is a the possibility that I was the only person watching.

It is pretty amazing that this show made it as long as it did.  It is also amazing that I have been watching this long.  So as the slowly failing network of ESPN kills off one of my favorite shows.  I will say good bye and thanks for a half hour of interesting conversation every Sunday Morning.
