The Week That WasTwo for One Championships and Two Weeks.   We missed last week because of a vacation break.  Not much yet has changed since the last look back two weeks ago.  We are still waiting on the NBA and NHL to decide a champion.  Summer is still not quite here.  The NFL is still in the news here and there.  Baseball is baseball.   I now understand why some teams will pay someone $300 million if they are not living up to it stat wise.   NASCAR is still having issues.   The Womens World Cup starts with the USA scoring more goals in one game then the USA mens team has in the las few world cups they have been in.

MLB Not to the Half Way point

We talk about that all the time.  The baseball season is so long it is difficult to stay interested for the whole season.  So that brings me to something we talked about in the off season.  Is a player worth a $330 million dollar contract?   I guess it really would depend on the player.  Before I always thought that teams signed players to help them win.  That may be still true.  On my vacation I witnessed something totally different.  We were looking around the stores that have clothes and beach towels.   When my 16 year old daughter says.  Help me find a Phillies towel.  Now keep in mind that we live in central Ohio.  She has shown no interest for any of the baseball teams in central Ohio.  So I was perplexed as to why she would be interested in the Phillies.  When I asked her she said Bryce Harper.  She does play softball so I see why there is some interest in baseball but not the Phillies.

It has gone so far that she has looked up when the Phillies will be close to where we live.  She is trying to get us to plan a trip to see the Phillies play.   I do believe that Harper is going to help the Phillies win a lot of games.  After this past week it is very clear to me that is not the only reason teams are willing to pay that kind of money.  I am not sure how many fans they picked up because of that signing but if they could turn one person into a fan that showed no interst before.  Then I am sure that there are a lot more.

Two for One Championship the NHL

The St. Louis Blues had it in the bag.  They went back to St. Louis with a 3 -2 lead over the Bruins.  All they had to do was put together a decent game and they would win the first Stanley Cup in their history.  What happened was that they forgot they had to play that game.  The Bruins showed up and destroyed the Blues winning 5 – 1.  In a game that sucked the wind out of the sails for the Blues.   There is still a chance that the Blues could put it together and win game 7.   In the NHL game 7 really can be a game of one lucky bounce of the puck.  Strange things can happen with a NHL game gets to over time or game 7 in a series.  If you are in a situation to avoid going to a game 7 you really need to do all you can to avoid it.  For the Blues that is not how it worked out.  The Bruins took it too them and more than likely that game will propel the Bruins to another Cup.    By next week we will know.

Two for One Championship the NBA

If not for all the injuries that the Warriors have I would be saying the same thing about the Raptors that I just said about the Blues.   The Raptors had everything set the way they wanted it.  Poised to take down the Dynasty of the Warriors.  Up three to one and Durant Questionable.  The Raptors just really did not have to blow it at home.  The Raptors were better prepared to play then the Blues were.  But something strange happened.   Durant played and he did make a slight difference.  Then early in th second quarter he got hurt.   He was out for the rest of the game.  Now for sure out for the rest of the series.  Probably even out for the all of next season.  Still even with all that the Warriors were somehow able to win that game and take it back to Oracle down 3 – 2.

Unlike with the blues though I do think that the Raptors are going to win this series.  The Warriors are just too beat up.  Even though the Warriors have had quite the run.  They have been played close in several series.  They are not an invincible team.  They are a really good team that has had a bit of luck on their side.    I think that the Raptors will win one of the last two games.  Then who knows that will happen there.

NASCAR Has Bigger Problems

We have talked before about the problems that NASCAR has with viewership.  It has gotten worse.  While I was on vacation NASCAR had a race and I did not even know it.   The races have actually been pretty interesting this year.  I have however been catching up more by watching replays or reading about who won. I am sure that I am not the only person doing this now.  I really am not sure what they can do to bring people back to watching.  They are really going to have to do something drastic.  Not sure they can do it.   If you were the person to fix NASCAR What would you do?

On the Tube TV not You

The only big thing to report here is Americas Got Talent.  We have been watching this show since it started.  We love variety shows and the hosts are mostly pretty good.  They always find some interesting acts so that always makes for interesting viewing.  I know it is not for everyone but it is a log of fun to watch.  Other things that came back Fear the Walking Dead.  After the huge gains it made last season. This season has been a little confusing and have not added much to the story.   So we will see how it goes.

The Week That was will return to being a weekly post next week.
