Kevin DurantKevin Durant Made His Choice Stop the Blame Game.  I have heard people place blame on everyone for what happened in game 5 of the NBA finals.  Jalen Rose blamed everyone except for Santa Clause for the injury to Kevin Durant.  It was pretty crazy what happened.   Durant was hurt early in the second quarter.  It was not the same injury he had earlier in the playoffs.  It was how ever the injury this time  that people thought he had suffered earlier in the playoffs.

From what we know about the situation.  Durant was cleared to play by the teams medical staff.  Could they have been biased.  Yes indeed they can.  I am sure that players have been given bad information before.  Steve Kerr made the statement that the injury was healed to a point where it could not get worse.  Odd to make a statement like that since of course any injury can get worse.  But I think what he meant is that he was healed to a point where if it happened again it would be like a new injury.  In this case the old injury did not get worse.  It was a completely new injury.

In the end Kevin Durant is a professional athlete.  He makes a great deal of money.  For that money he trades his basketball skill.  Which in turn can make him more money.  It is a quality trade off for the player and the team.  We also know that at times players can be cleared and then decide not to play because they do not feel quite right.  People will chastise them for making that call.  It is no different than praising them when they make a decision those same people agree with.  It happens.  It comes with the job.

I have head people say that Durant made the call to play because he did not want to hear what people would say if he decided not to play and then they found out he had been cleared.   If that is true that that is on him.  No one else.  Not the fans not the media not the team.  That is a choice he made.

So who is to blame?  No one.  Or I guess you could say sports are to blame.  Athletes get injured.  It is part of the job.  Some avoid serious injury other seem to be injury prone.  Should Durant regret his decision to play?  I would say I hope not.  He did well before he got hurt.  If the Warriors come back to win the series.  Durant will get a lot of credit from his teammates and the fans that he gave it a go.  Hind site is always 20/20.  If he knew before the game that he was going to get hurt for sure then he probably would not have played.

In the long run he will make a ton more cash.  This is not a life threatening injury.  It will side track his career for at least a year.  The recovery will be long and difficult but many have done it before.   He will either sign a max deal with the Warriors or some other team.  We will see him play again in 2020.

So to all the talking heads out there.  Shut up.  If you have something intelligent to say then keep talking otherwise I will just make fun of you more often.

I also heard someone complain about the Warriors saying they were going to use the Kevin Durant injury as motivation to win the series.  They said that they are professionals and that should be enough motivation to win.   It probably is but if they want to say this is for Kevin Durant.  Not sure why they would care. The players can use what ever they want for motivation.
